What Mac Users Need to Do after Suffering Data Loss

In many scenarios, you might come across data loss problem in your Mac system. Mac system requires high maintenance to avoid data loss and other problems regarding Mac system. If you can’t find your deleted data in the trash or access to some files, do not misunderstand that you lost the data already. In fact, you can get back the folders or files due to virus or malware attack, or accidental deletion of files/folders, accidentally formatting and improper operations provided you take the necessary steps to recover your files.
Here we’ll illustrate the reasons caused the data loss problem, and the right steps you need to follow once you suffer data loss, so as to help you recover your lost data at the best efforts.

What reasons cause the data loss?

Besides the physical failure of hard drives which storage data, most often the data loss is attributed to human error as below:

Accidental deletion of Mac files

When press the “command + delete” or click “Empty” button in the Trash, you permanently erase the data that you need to view later.

Accidentally formatting

Made a mistake to format the partition if you have more than one Macintosh HD in your Mac system, or other portable storage devices such as memory cards, and you want to recover the data on the partition now.

Virus infection

In spite of antivirus software, the Mac operating system may suffer the virus or malware attack still.

Corruption of the file or operating system

Sometimes you may find that the file or operation system is corrupted after a period of computer running.

Improper operations

Pull out the memory card while the camera is on, or turn off the camera during a write process, etc.

Right Steps for Mac users to do when suffer data loss:

In order to improve the chance to retrieve the data on Mac, you need to apply the necessary steps.
If you suspect a physical hard drive malfunction, the best thing you should do is to back up your data immediately if possible. If you can’t do it, shut down your system and take the whole drive to a professional. When you heard a new, unusual sound coming from your hardware like a buzzing or clunking sound, it signs that the hard driver may physically damage.
Note: Keep your hard drive in a cool, dry environment to prolong its life.
If you lost data due to the above reasons, stop using the Macintosh hard drive to store any information, as it is hard to restore your deleted data if it has been overwritten by new content. Try to use Mac Time Machine to rescue data, which backups your data every hour. If you didn’t get the data loss back still, you can turn to the third party software for help, such as Data Recovery for Mac.
However if you have backed up your information regularly, you can restore the data no matter whether it was overwritten or not. It is your best defense against data loss.
