Much like the built-in spell checking capabilities with Safari in previous 10.x versions of the Mac OS, version 10.4 (better known as "Tiger") has a built-in dictionary feature that defines a highlighted word or phrase using the new application "Dictionary", which is shipped with the new operating system.
- Simply highlight a word you wish to define
- Right-click on the word and choose "Look Up in Dictionary"
This will launch the Dictionary application and definte the word highlighted.
An alternate way of defining chosen words in Tiger is to simply hover the mouse over a word and press the following "hot key" combination: control+command+D. This will display a small pop-up window containing a definition of the selected word(s).
