When printing to virtual printers from Virtual PC 6 or 6.1 in Mac OS 10.3.X, Windows appears to spool the print job; but when the Windows print spooler passes the document off to the Mac OS print spool it fails. There is no error message given, just a failure to print the document. This problem has been fixed in Virtual PC 7.0. For users who don't want to upgrade there are several solutions
- Downgrade the system software to 10.2.8 or earlier.
- If the printer is connected to your computer via USB, then select Window XX Settings from theEdit menu and then select USB from the left side of the preferences window. The USB printer should appear as one of the USB items on the list that appears on the right side of the prefernces window; click on the checkbox to enable it. Windows will now recognize the printer and allow you to print to it directly. This printer will not be available to Macintosh programs while Virtual PC is running; Virtual PC takes control of it.
- Enable the shared folder in the Window XX Preferences. Print the document in Windows to a postscript file in the shared folder, then go to the Macintosh side and open Print Center. In Print Center double-click on the printer you want to print to and when it's print queue opens drag the postscript file created in Windows from the shared folder onto the print queue window.
