Macintosh Monitor Switches Resolutions at Startup

If your Macintosh monitor is switching to another resolution each time you start it up, or if the date and time keep resetting, the problem is most likely a dead motherboard backup battery.
When the backup battery in a Macintosh dies, the computer is unable to remember things like the day and time and monitor resolution. Replacing the battery on the motherboard should fix the problem. Go to Apple's support website to get the model number of the battery needed for a particular model of Macintosh. Information regarding PRAM batteries can be found by clicking on the link near the top of the support webpage.
