Which Files Need to be Backed Up Under OS X?

Mac OS X separates user files from system files. Every user on a Mac OS X system has their own personal area, called the home directory, which is usually located on the same drive as the Mac OS X files. The user's home directory is in the Users folder; and the folder name will usually be the same as Mac OS X username of the person whose files are stored there. A simple way to backup all the user files would be to backup that folder. Simply dragging it and dropping it onto another disk is enough to backup the user files, assuming the backup disk is sufficiently large enough to hold all the files. Naturally, audio and image files will take up a lot of space so keep this in mind when backups are made.
