Unable to Print to a Lexmark Laser Printer from Mac OS 10.3.X

Many Lexmark printers have drivers for Mac OS X that are only certified up to OS 10.2.6. For users affected by this problem, there are several solutions. The first is to reinstall Mac OS 10.2.0-10.2.6 and not upgrade until Lexmark releases upgraded printer drivers. If the printer is on the network, another option is to use IP printing.

To do IP printing to a networked printer, first get the IP address of the printer from your local network administrator (DNA), then follow these instructions:
  1. Open the Printer Setup Utility, which is found in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder, and click on the Add icon on the tool bar at the top of the window.
  2. Select IP Printing from the topmost pop-up menu.
  3. enter the IP address obtained from your DNA into the "Printer Address" field.
  4. Make sure the "Printer Model" is Generic and the "Printer Type" is LPD/LPR.
  5. Click on Add to save the settings and the printer is now ready for printing.
Lexmark has released an updated version of their printer drivers, dated January 28, 2004 but only lists compatability up to Mac OS 10.2.6.
As of October 12, 2004, Lexmark appears to have updated some of their drivers. The driver for the T622 has a release date of May 25th of 2004. No indication of what's new with this version of the driver.
